The hospital was formerly the Fourth Hospital of Nanjing. 198 1 became the second affiliated hospital of Nanjing Medical College and the Children's Hospital of Nanjing Medical College. It was later renamed the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, and the Second Clinical Medical College of Nanjing Medical University was established in 2007. In 2007, the Third Hospital of Nanjing (formerly Nanjing Railway Hospital) was entrusted to establish the East Hospital of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. In 2009, it became a third-class and first-class general hospital.
