National english contest for college students (NECCS) is the only competition in China to examine college students' comprehensive English ability, which is organized by the Foreign Language Teaching Steering Committee and the Foreign Language Teaching Research Association.
The purpose of this competition is to cooperate with the evaluation of higher education teaching level of the Ministry of Education, implement the spirit of college English teaching and examination reform of the Ministry of Education, stimulate students' interest in learning English, promote the overall improvement of college students' English level, and select and reward college students with excellent college English learning results.

The proposition of the preliminary and final questions of all kinds of exams will be based on the documents such as English syllabus for non-English majors, English syllabus for English majors in colleges and universities, college English curriculum requirements (for trial implementation) and basic requirements for English curriculum teaching in higher vocational colleges, and learn from the latest test theories and propositional skills and methods at home and abroad.
Refer to the existing major college English textbooks, and don't rely on any one; It should not only be close to the study life of contemporary college students, but also help to test the actual English level of participating college students. The preliminary and final questions of this competition pay attention to reliability and validity, and the content reflects authenticity, practicality, communication and the times.

The full score of the initial test and the final written test is 150 (90 points for the construction response question and 60 points for the choice response question), and the listening comprehension is 30 points. The full score of the final oral exam is 50. This competition not only examines college students' basic English knowledge and skills, but also focuses on their comprehensive English application ability, reading ability and intelligence level.
The competition will learn from the new English test questions and test methods at home and abroad, and make innovations on the basis of maintaining the relative stability and continuity of the test questions. The content of the competition will further strengthen the "double-base" test of English, strengthen the "ability" orientation, improve the initial and final listening tests and final oral tests, and increase the test of language application ability at the discourse level.
