1978 1 1, Guangdong Radio and TV University was formally established;

1979 On February 6th, Guangdong Radio and TV University and China Central Radio and TV University held the opening ceremony of the first batch of students simultaneously, and enrolled students in Guangzhou, Foshan, Jiangmen, Nanhai, Sanshui, Dongguan, Shunde, Conghua and Huaxian 12599.

1June, 988, Guangdong Higher Education Bureau approved Guangdong Radio and TV University to pilot undergraduate majors; In the same year, 80 undergraduate majors in Chinese language and literature and enterprise management were enrolled;

1996, Guangdong Radio and TV University was approved by the State Education Commission as a pilot unit for "upgrading from college to undergraduate", and in the same year, students majoring in law and computer science were enrolled 100 respectively. In the same year, Guangdong Radio and TV University opened the "Radio and TV University General College Class";

From 65438 to 0999, Guangdong Radio and TV University, as the first batch of pilot units, participated in the project of "Training Mode Reform and Open Education Pilot of Central Radio and TV University" approved by the Ministry of Education;

Guangdong Open University is a new type of institution of higher learning which is supported by modern information technology and mainly provides long-distance open education for adults.

201212 On 26th of February, the Ministry of Education agreed that Guangdong Radio and Television University should be renamed Guangdong Open University with the school code of 5 13 15.
