1994 Under the care of Jiangsu Provincial Health Department, Nanjing Medical University and its First Affiliated Hospital, and with the support of international friends such as NAGALION Club in Nagoya, Japan, internationally renowned ophthalmologists Dr. Ando Ryuno, Dean Qiu Xinnan, Dean Sugita, Professor Yuan Nanrong and Dr. Jiang Qin established the first international cooperative eye hospital in Jiangsu Province-China-Japan Friendship Nanjing Eye Hospital (Jiangsu Provincial Hospital Ophthalmology Branch). In Jiangsu Province, the hospital took the lead in carrying out a series of modern micro-ophthalmic operations synchronized with the international level, such as vitrectomy, phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation, deep lamellar keratoplasty, anterior segment reconstruction, refractory ocular trauma surgery (including non-magnetic intraocular foreign body removal and combined corneal transplantation and intraocular lens implantation), and non-penetrating filtration surgery, which still represents the most complicated surgical techniques in ophthalmology and has made great contributions to the overall improvement of the level of ophthalmic surgery in Jiangsu Province. After years of clinical practice, it has formed the remarkable characteristics of the hospital, that is, high-level ophthalmic microsurgery technology and high-skilled diagnosis and treatment of intractable diseases.
