1995 was formed by the merger of Guangdong Institute of Technology, South China Institute of Architecture (East Campus) and Guangdong Institute of Machinery. At present, there are 10 provincial key disciplines, 5 provincial key disciplines, and 5 disciplines such as engineering, materials science, computer science, chemistry and environmental science rank in the top of ESI global disciplines 1%. Control science and engineering entered the national class A in the fourth round of national discipline evaluation. In 20 19, it entered the Times Higher Education World University Ranking and the academic ranking of "Top 1000" soft science list of world universities for the first time, and USNews2020 ranked 45th in China and 268th in the world.
