The University of Auckland ranks first among the eight universities in New Zealand. In the QS ranking of 20 14 world universities, Australian universities rank 94th. In the Times ranking, Australian universities rank 164.

The second place is the University of Otago, the third place is Canterbury, and the fourth place is Victoria, all around 200.

The highest ranked major is the civil engineering major in Canterbury, ranking 19 in the world. Students from Shanghai Jiaotong University's New Zealand Study Bridge have entered this major for two consecutive years.

The world ranking 19 also includes psychology major of Otago University and agronomy major of Massey University, but few foreign students study these two majors.
