Xiamen University was founded by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China, and one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students. Xiamen University Malaysian Branch was established, becoming the first university in China to build an independent campus overseas.
