In fact, Northeastern University was founded by Zhang Jianli, and Zhang Xueliang invested heavily in the expansion (using most of Zhang's legacy). The original site is now the Liaoning provincial government and now Nanhu. Now Northeastern University and Northeast Normal University are both separated from the old Northeastern University. Zhang Xueliang's Dongda University will be the most funded university in China, more than Tsinghua and Peking University combined.
