1August, 958, the school was placed under the leadership of the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping by the Ministry of Education. In February of the same year, it was renamed Wuhan Institute of Surveying and Mapping.

1993 The school merged the Department of Geodesy and the Department of Engineering Survey to form the College of Geodesy and Engineering.
On August 2, 2000, Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Wuhan Technical University of Surveying and Mapping and Hubei Medical University merged to form the new Wuhan University.
