Southeast University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), and it is a national "double first-class" Class A, "985 Project" and "21/project" key construction university.

The school started from Sanjiang Normal School founded by 1902, and then went through important development periods such as Liangjiang Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, National Southeast University and National Central University.
