The school can be traced back to the provincial Guangxi University founded by 1928 and the Guangxi Provincial Teachers College founded by 1932. Provincial Teachers College 1936 merged, 1939 was renamed as National Guangxi University, 194 1 rebuilt Guilin Teachers College. 1950 merged into Guangxi University again. 1953, the former Guangxi University was closed, and Guangxi Normal University was established on the basis of some teachers and all students of teachers' professional courses in its cultural and educational colleges and science colleges. 1983 was renamed Guangxi Normal University.

On August 8, 20 15, the people's government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the Ministry of Education signed an opinion on the construction of Guangxi Normal University, and Guangxi Normal University officially entered the ranks of key universities under construction by the Ministry of Education.

From 2065438 to 2006, the first State Key Laboratory built in Guangxi Province was located in Guangxi Normal University.
