The Department of Architecture of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (formerly Huazhong Institute of Technology) was established in 1982, and the first undergraduate and master students were enrolled in September of that year; The school hired Professor Zhou Buyi of Tsinghua University as the first dean, and famous architects Mr. Huang Kangyu, Mr. Cai Dezhuang, Professor Zhang, Huang and Professor Tong participated in the formation and served as the leaders of the department or teaching and research section; The Department of Architecture of Huazhong University of Science and Technology was supported by many domestic universities and foreign scholars at the beginning of its establishment, which made the Department of Architecture of Huazhong University of Science and Technology gain a fairly high basis and rich experience from the beginning.

1986, Huazhong University of Science and Technology was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and officially established a master's degree authorization point for architectural design and theory. 1992 Huazhong university of science and technology was officially approved by the state education commission, and the architecture major was changed to a five-year program. 1997 passed the qualification evaluation of the basic conditions for master's degree authorization entrusted by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee and implemented by Hubei Academic Degrees Office; 65438+1May, 1999, the Department of Architecture of Huazhong University of Science and Technology passed two professional evaluations: undergraduate education in architecture and postgraduate training in architectural design and theory.

The former Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction is the first urban construction institute approved by the State Council and one of the universities directly under the Ministry of Construction. Its history originated from the Institute of Architecture and Engineering, which was established on February 3, 1952/kloc-0, and passed through Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction (1963) and Wuhan Institute of Architecture and Engineering (1965). From 65438 to February 0985, Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction established the Department of Urban Planning, which consists of two majors: urban planning and landscape architecture. 1986 set up architecture major, 1993 adjusted the department of Wuhan Urban Construction College, and newly established the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture, which consists of architecture and urban planning. In May 2000, the former School of Architecture of Huazhong University of Science and Technology merged with the former Department of Planning and Architecture of Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction to form the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, with Yuan, a national architect, as the dean and Professor, the executive vice president, as the head of the Department of Architecture.

In recent years, the Department of Architecture of Huazhong University of Science and Technology has completed the professional reorganization and the corresponding discipline construction from the aspects of institutional adjustment, teacher allocation, training scheme revision and school-running conditions improvement, and has embarked on a new road of running a school. The Department of Architecture now offers undergraduate degree courses in architecture and postgraduate degree courses in architectural design and theory. Since the establishment of this department, 18 undergraduates and 18 postgraduates have graduated.

The Department of Architecture has a dedicated teaching building with an area of 7 100㎡. There are 60 teachers in the Department of Architecture, including professors 1 1, associate professors 18 and lecturers. While undertaking teaching tasks, teachers actively participated in scientific research, engineering design and academic research, and achieved a number of gratifying results. There are 669 undergraduates, 0/50 postgraduates and 0/20 postgraduates. Many graduates have become the backbone of various units and have been well received by the society and employers.
