Kaifeng University, located in Kaifeng, a famous historical and cultural city in China and the ancient capital of the Eight Dynasties, was founded in 1980. It is a full-time ordinary college approved by the Henan Provincial People's Government, put on record by the Ministry of Education and sponsored by the Kaifeng Municipal People's Government, covering six disciplines: engineering, management, literature, economics, medicine and art.

The school has 12 colleges, 2 departments, 5 public teaching and research sections, 57 permanent majors, 16088 full-time students from 30 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions).
