Hebei University of Geology, founded in 1953, is one of the five universities directly under the former Ministry of Geology. It is a provincial key university jointly established by the Ministry of Land and Resources and the People's Government of Hebei Province. Li Tingdong, an academician of China Academy of Sciences, is the honorary president of the school.

There are more than 900 full-time teachers, 50% of whom have senior professional and technical positions, and 92% have doctoral and master's degrees.
