The predecessor of the Central University for Nationalities was194/kloc-0, which was established in Yan 'an in September. Yan 'an University for Nationalities takes the training of ethnic minority cadres and Han cadres as its main task.

Shortly after the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), in June 65438 +0949+February 65438, according to the development of the situation, especially the needs of national construction, regional ethnic autonomy, the realization of the same program and the implementation of the party's ethnic policy, Mao Zedong made instructions to train a large number of ethnic minority cadres.

1in June, 950, the central people's government decided to establish a new university in Beijing, the Central University for Nationalities, and transferred a group of comrades who had worked in Yan 'an University for Nationalities to prepare for the establishment of the school. From 1952 to May 1966, the school began to run a regular school and gradually developed into a liberal arts institution of higher learning. 1952, when the state readjusted its departments, Tsinghua University Sociology Department, Peking University Oriental Language Department and yenching university Sociology Department, Peking University's predecessor, were placed under the Central University for Nationalities, and the campus was moved from imperial academy to the vicinity of Baishiqiao in the western suburbs. Later, teaching and research units such as national language department, history department, politics department, art department, Chinese language department, research department and preparatory department were established one after another. The counselor's office of the Central Ethnic Affairs Commission also went to the Central Institute for Nationalities. Postgraduate education began in the early 1950s. [4]
