The predecessor of the Central University for Nationalities was194/kloc-0, which was established in Yan 'an in September. Yan 'an University for Nationalities takes the training of ethnic minority cadres and Han cadres as its main task.

Later, teaching and research units such as national language department, history department, politics department, art department, Chinese language department, research department and preparatory department were established one after another.
