Shantou University, located in Shantou City, Guangdong Province, is a comprehensive university in Guangdong Province sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government. It has been selected into the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" and "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education, and the China Municipal Government has accepted scholarships for international students in China. He is a member of Guangdong High-level University Key Discipline Construction University, Guangdong Higher Education System and Mechanism Reform Experimental Demonstration School and CDIO International Engineering Education Cooperation Organization.

Shantou University was established on 198 1 with the approval of the State Council. In September of the same year, the Ministry of Education approved Shantou Medical College to be merged into Shantou University and set up as Shantou University Medical College.
