Along the stone steps on the earthen hill in the northeast corner of the Lotus Pond in Tsinghua, Shui Mu, you can see a hexagonal pavilion shaded by pine and bamboo. This is Wen Ting in memory of Mr Wen Yiduo, a famous poet, scholar and outstanding democracy fighter.
At the beginning of the school, there used to be a bell pavilion, in which hung an ancient Ming clock with a diameter of four feet. The bell is ringing and the sound reaches Haidian.
19 12, 13 years old Hubei teenagers were admitted to Beijing Tsinghua Preparatory School to study in the United States. From then on, he went to work every day, concentrated on reading, set up Tsinghua Literature Society after school, and often composed poems.
In the past ten years, Wen Yiduo has made remarkable academic achievements and dabbled in a wide range. He also organized a "night school for school workers" to provide the simplest help to the villagers nearby. During this period, he responded to the call of Li Dazhao and others and became an active figure in the patriotic student movement.
After the May 4th Movement broke out, Wen Yiduo wrote Yue Fei's "Red River" overnight and posted it in front of the canteen. He gave a speech and wrote new poems, and became one of the pioneers of new literature and art. 192 1 year, the June 3rd tragedy occurred in Beijing. Twenty-nine students, including Wen Yiduo, took part in the strike protest and were punished for failing grades. It was not until the next year that they were able to go abroad for further study.
After the July 7th Incident, the school moved south, the Tsinghua campus was destroyed by the Japanese invaders, and the bell tower was unfortunately destroyed.
At this time, Wen Yiduo, a representative poet of the Crescent School and professor of The National SouthWest Associated University, felt bitter about the current situation, abandoned his fantasy and actively devoted himself to the struggle against Japan and national salvation and democratic dictatorship.
1946 On July 5th, at the memorial service in Li Gongpu, Wen Yiduo flew into a rage and delivered the famous "The Last Speech". In the afternoon, he was assassinated by agents at the age of 46.
A year later, at the initiative of classmate Pan Guangdan, the students raised funds to rebuild the bell tower and named it Wen Ting. The pavilion was designed by Liang Sicheng and inscribed by Pan Guangdan. The ancient clock in the pavilion was moved from other places.
1June, 986, the school built a statue of Wen Yiduo under the pavilion. Between pines and cypresses, Mr. Wang is still wearing a gown and holding a pipe, watching the teachers and students coming and going with kind and determined eyes.
Occasionally, the distant bell still penetrates the long river of time and space, as if never forgetting: "The poet's main talents are love, love for the motherland and love for the people".
