1, college system
The history of the Chinese University of Hong Kong began with the merger of Chung Chi College, New Asia College and United College at 1963, followed by the establishment of Shaw College at 1986, Morningside College and Shanheng College in 2006, Wenjing College, wu yee sun college College and Harmony College in 2007, and CUHK * * in 20 12.
Cuhk is the only university in Hong Kong that implements the college system. All full-time undergraduates of CUHK can choose a college and become a member of it. Each college is unique and has its own culture, but together they have shaped the spirit of China University.
Colleges are harmonious groups. Each college has dormitories, canteens and other facilities, and holds various activities, including overseas exchange and visit programs, seminars, counseling programs, community services, language, information technology and leadership training, as well as extracurricular activities organized by various student associations.
The college provides many informal educational opportunities as a supplement to the formal courses, aiming at cultivating students' interpersonal skills, cultural taste, self-confidence and sense of responsibility. Students can also make full use of scholarships and financial aid projects to develop their personal growth potential.
2. General education
World-class university education should not only pay attention to the cultivation of specialized talents, but also cultivate students' critical thinking and cultural awareness, which are the characteristics of modern and future world citizens. General education is an important part of the bachelor's course of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It combines China's humanistic ideal with the liberal arts education in the west, imparting knowledge to students in a balanced and multifaceted way, thus realizing holistic education. Besides, the general education courses in this university are divided into the following four compulsory areas: China cultural heritage, nature, science and technology, society and culture, self and humanity.
Cuhk offers more than 200 elective courses in general education, which are closely related to modern society. Outside the classroom, universities hold academic conferences, retreats, reading clubs, general education salons and other activities to provide an environment for students to hone their knowledge and exchange ideas. In addition, the college also offers a variety of general education courses and learning opportunities.
