Jilin Agricultural University is a comprehensive agricultural university integrating agriculture, science, engineering, medicine, literature, management, law and teaching. It is a provincial-level key university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Jilin Province. It is one of the first universities in China with the right to award bachelor's and master's degrees. It is also one of the key construction universities in the Central and Western University Basic Capacity Building Project 100 and one of the first outstanding agricultural and forestry universities in China.
The school was founded on 1948. Its predecessor was Heilongjiang Agricultural Cadre School, and later it was renamed Bei 'an Agricultural College and Changchun Agricultural College. On 1959, it was officially renamed as Jilin Agricultural University. 1993 became the first provincial institution in Jilin province to obtain the authorization of doctoral degree.
As of 20 14, the school covers an area of nearly 1500 hectares, of which the campus covers an area of 3 19.02 hectares, with a total construction area of 720,000 square meters, total fixed assets of over 2.2 billion yuan, and library collection of1670,000 books.
