Hainan University is a comprehensive key university which was merged from South China University of Tropical Agriculture and Hainan University in August 2007. It is a "joint Ministry-provincial" university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial People's Government, and a "double-class" national university. Crop science has been selected into the list of world-class disciplines for two consecutive rounds, and eight disciplines, including animal and plant science, material science, chemistry, agricultural science, engineering, environmental science/ecology, biology and biochemistry, and general social science, have entered the top of ESI global 1%.
