In July 2020, under the background of vigorously promoting the modernization of the national governance system and governance capacity and focusing on exploring the development of new liberal arts, Southwest University complied with the new needs of national development, substantially integrated the school-running concepts of the former School of Politics and Public Administration, the former School of Public Administration and the former School of Culture and Social Development, and established the National Governance Institute.
The college has a doctoral degree authorization point for philosophy-level disciplines, a postdoctoral research station for philosophy-level disciplines, a doctoral degree authorization point for interdisciplinary disciplines in governance, four master's degree authorization points for philosophy, political science, sociology and public administration, and two professional degree authorization points for master's degree in public administration (MPA) and master's degree in social work (MSW).

The college currently has11staff, including 93 full-time teachers, 22 professors and 37 associate professors. There are 0/8 doctoral supervisors/kloc-and 50 master supervisors. More than 90% full-time teachers have doctoral degrees; Nearly 70% of teachers under the age of 45; Nearly 50% of them have the experience of studying and visiting abroad.
