Changchun university of science and technology, located in Changchun City, Jilin Province, was founded by China Academy of Sciences, 1958. It is the first institution of higher learning in New China to train optical professionals.

The school has formed a discipline layout featuring photoelectric technology, combining light, machinery, electricity, calculation and materials, and coordinating the development of engineering, science, literature, economics, management, law and art, and has built a large photoelectric discipline system integrating light, machinery, electricity, calculation and materials. The predecessor of the school is Changchun Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics founded by China Academy of Sciences 1958; It successively belongs to China Academy of Sciences, Science, Technology and Industry Committee for National Defense, Fifth Machinery Department, Weapons Department, Machinery Committee, Mechanical and Electrical Department and Weapons Industry Corporation. 1999 transferred to the director of Jilin province to build with the commission of science, technology and industry for national defense; Changchun university of science and technology in 2002.
