Wenzhou University, referred to as "Wenda" for short, is located in Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province and sponsored by Wenzhou Municipal People's Government. It is a university jointly established by Zhejiang Education Department and Wenzhou Municipal People's Government, a key construction university in Zhejiang Province, a doctoral degree awarding unit, and selected as a pilot university in the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education.

By the end of 10 in 2022, the school had 1 authorized points for doctoral degrees in first-class disciplines, 18 authorized points for master's degrees in first-class disciplines and 17 authorized points for master's degrees. Ruian Graduate School of Wenzhou University and Zhejiang Post-doctoral Workstation were established, and doctors and post-doctors were jointly trained with 24 well-known universities and scientific research institutions at home and abroad. Ecology is the dominant and characteristic discipline in Zhejiang Province.
Nine disciplines, including chemistry, China language and literature, electrical engineering, law, Marxist theory, applied economics, mechanical engineering, ecology and civil engineering, are the first-class disciplines in Zhejiang Province, and four disciplines, including chemistry, material science, engineering and computer science, rank in the top 1% in ESI.
