Henan University was founded in 19 12 as a preparatory school for studying in Europe and America in Henan. The first principal was Mr. Lin, and the school site was built on the old site. The last two national examinations of 1903 and 1904 were held here, and the imperial examination system for thousands of years also came to an end here.

19 12 years, a group of Henan benevolent sages, represented by Li Shican, Chen, and Wang, founded the Henan Preparatory School for Studying in Europe and America at the dawn of the victory of the Revolution of 1911, becoming one of the three major training bases for studying abroad in China at that time.

After the stages of Zhongzhou University, National Kaifeng Sun Yat-sen University (also known as the Fifth National Sun Yat-sen University) and Provincial Henan University, it was changed to National Henan University on 1942, with six colleges of literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine and law.
