Public art is a new art subject under the background of urbanization. This major integrates art, environment, technology and design, and is oriented to contemporary art undertakings and contemporary social and cultural industries, and participates in social and cultural construction, mass cultural and artistic activities and public cultural and artistic development. In order to cultivate talents in cultural relics restoration urgently needed by the country, school of visual arts has set up the major of cultural relics restoration, which is a new discipline initiated in China and also a key major in our university. At present, there are three professional directions: ceramic restoration, China painting and calligraphy mounting restoration and painting protection. The school invested in three restoration studios. There are four subject courses: art, cultural relics, restoration technology and restoration operation. Long-term employment of experts and scholars from Shanghai Museum, Fudan University and Shanghai Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute to teach, and to cultivate compound applied talents with strong practical ability and the combination of art and technology.
