The origin of Huazhong Agricultural University dates back to 1898, when Governor Hu Guang founded Hubei Agricultural School at the invitation of Qing government, which was one of the starting points of higher agricultural education in China. Through inheritance and evolution, Huazhong Agricultural College was established in 1952 by the Agricultural College of Wuhan University, all departments of Hubei Agricultural College and some departments of Sun Yat-sen University, and was renamed as Huazhong Agricultural University in 1985.
