Southwestern University of Finance and Economics is located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), and jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Sichuan Province. Ranked as a "double-first-class" world-class discipline construction university, 21/engineering and 985 engineering advantage discipline innovation platform.

Selected into "20 1 1 plan", outstanding legal talents education and training plan, key research base of humanities and social sciences of Ministry of Education, national basic talents training base of economics, national public postgraduate plan for building high-level universities, national innovation experiment plan for college students, national innovation and entrepreneurship training plan for college students, scholarship receiving institution of China government for overseas students, national demonstration university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform, and national cultural quality education base for college students.

It is the first batch of pilot universities for the reform of the national education system, a founding member of the China-Europe Business School Alliance, a national key university focusing on economic management and finance, and is known as the "China Financial Talent Pool".

The school started from Guanghua University, and 1925 was established in Shanghai. 1938 Guanghua university Chengdu branch was established due to its westward migration during the anti-Japanese war. 1946 changed its name to Hua University. 1952 to 1953. Based on Chenghua University, it was merged into the Finance Department of Southwest China 16 to form Sichuan University of Finance and Economics.

1960 Sichuan university of finance and economics and Sichuan university of science and technology were established respectively, and in 196 1 year they merged and renamed Chengdu university. 1978 resumed as Sichuan University of Finance and Economics. 1979 was handed over from Sichuan province to the People's Bank of China. 1985 changed its name to Southwestern University of Finance and Economics. In 2000, it was handed over to the Ministry of Education for management.
