Xu Ruiyun, the first female doctor of mathematics in China, once taught three academicians.
19 15 June15, China's first female doctor of mathematics, Xu Ruiyun, was born in Shanghai.

Three days before her centenary birthday, her adopted daughter, Dr. Xu Yuhua, was invited to introduce the life of the former head of the Department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University.

On that day, Zhejiang University "Trinity" enrolled students, and the teaching building was full of candidates and parents, which was very lively. Not far from the alumni building, it's quiet. Most students who come to class have never heard of the name Xu Ruiyun.

Although young students don't know Xu Ruiyun, Zhejiang University has not forgotten this outstanding pioneer. To commemorate the 0/00th anniversary of Xu Ruiyun's birthday, the Department of Mathematics not only invited Xu Yuhua, who is far away from the United States, to give lectures to students, but also organized a commemorative meeting in Yuquan Campus of Zhejiang University.

This commemorative meeting is like a small gathering of the Department of Mathematics. Participants are either graduates of the Department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University or students. In addition to Shi Zhongci, an academician of China Academy of Sciences, famous mathematicians and computer experts, Xue, former president of Hangzhou University, Xie, vice president and other heavyweight guests also attended the meeting.

One summer morning, new and old students from the Department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University sat together to recall the legend of the Department of Mathematics.

On her centenary birthday, Zhejiang University held a forum to commemorate her.

Under the leadership of Su and Chen, the headmistress of mathematics is unforgettable.

She is the first female doctor of mathematics in China.

19 15 June 15, Xu Ruiyun was born in Shanghai. Her ancestral home is Cixi City, Zhejiang Province. Her father Xu Jiali is an industrialist who knits socks, and her mother is a devout Buddhist. Xu Ruiyun ranked sixth and was the cutest little girl in the family.

Xu Ruiyun and her husband Jiang took photos in Munich, Germany.

1927, Xu Ruiyun was admitted to a famous women's college in Shanghai. It was not easy for female students to go to high school at that time. After graduating from high school, most people choose to get married and have children. But Xu Ruiyun, who loves mathematics and is determined to be a teacher, doesn't want to live like this all his life. She persuaded her family to enter the Department of Mathematics of Zhejiang University, and studied under the famous mathematicians Su and Chen.

After graduation, she first worked as a teaching assistant in the Department of Mathematics, and then won a humbert scholarship with her husband to study in Germany. Xu Ruiyun's tutor is the famous mathematician Caratheodory. "At that time, Caratheodory was a little old and didn't want to accept any more students, but when I saw my mother studying hard and getting good grades, I accepted her as an apprentice. My mother is his last apprentice. "

Xu Ruiyun seldom mentioned her days of studying in Germany to her adopted daughter. The only thing he talked about was that he stayed up late to prepare his doctoral thesis and drank coffee to refresh himself when he was sleepy.

Wang Yuan, an academician of China Academy of Sciences, once mentioned that an article before liberation called Xu Ruiyun and another female mathematician the first heroines who broke into China's "male world-mathematics".

Become an associate professor at the age of 26.

Three academicians are her students.

After returning from German, 26-year-old Xu Ruiyun was hired as an associate professor of Zhejiang University and later became a full professor.

Although she was a young professor, she trained many excellent students at that time. Shi Zhongci and Hu, academicians of China Academy of Sciences, have all received her guidance.

At the memorial service, Shi Zhongci recalled that in the first grade, Xu Ruiyun taught them calculus. She said that calculus is the foundation, and students are required to learn calculus well anyway, and 70 points are required to pass. Encouraged by Xu Ruiyun, Shi Zhongci scored more than 90 points in the final exam.

The two old people and Hu did not come to the memorial service because of poor health, but wrote a commemorative article.

Wang Yuan's article is written by himself, which is three pages long. He called himself "an old student in xu teacher sixty-five years ago". From 65438 to 0949, Wang Yuan transferred from the English Department of Zhejiang University to the Mathematics Department of Zhejiang University, and took algebra classes with Xu Ruiyun. Hu Kao went to Su University.

Hu also mentioned Xu Ruiyun's home in their article. In Wang Yuan's memory, it was a small yard in an alley. It is similar to the quadrangle in Beijing, but much smaller. At the end of 1950, Xu Ruiyun called Wang Yuan and three other students home and made them lunch. What impressed Wang Yuan was braised pork belly, which was "very delicious".

My daughter's math.

During the period of 1952, the departments of domestic universities were greatly adjusted. Many teachers in the mathematics department of Zhejiang University have been transferred to Shanghai and other places. Xu Ruiyun stayed in Zhejiang University at first, and later transferred to Zhejiang Normal University as the head of the Department of Mathematics.

In order to improve the quality of teachers, Xu Ruiyun tried his best to send his teachers to study. Zheng, 8 1 year-old, a former professor of mathematics at Hangzhou University, took his wife to the memorial service.

Zheng's wife recalled that she was a math student and her husband was just a teaching assistant. Xu Ruiyun sent another young teacher of Zheng He to Beijing for two years.

The math volume records such a thing. 1953, Wang Sili, a functional theory expert who just graduated from the mechanical and electrical department of Zhejiang University. He loves mathematics and often asks Xu Ruiyun for advice.

Although he only studied advanced mathematics for one year, Xu Ruiyun felt that his foundation and talent were very good after interacting with him, so he was hired as a teaching assistant in the Department of Mathematics.

Xu Yuhua University also studies mathematics, but she says her mother seldom teaches her homework. "At our dinner table, my mother always talks about things in the department, and my father and I listen to her."
