The school has a history of more than 300 years, and its predecessor can be traced back to the "Brandenburg-Prussia Art Institute" built in 1696.
UdK Berlin is one of the largest, most diverse and traditional art universities in the world. All departments of the university cover more than 70 courses, covering the whole art and related scientific fields. The school has the right to confer doctoral degrees and post-doctoral qualifications, and art, music and drama teachers are also trained here.
