The architectural engineering specialty of Shanghai Jiaotong University was established in 1907, which is one of the earliest civil engineering specialties in Chinese history. 1952 during the adjustment of national departments, all teachers and students were merged into Tongji university. 1985 Shanghai jiaotong university resumed the establishment of the department of civil engineering, 1993 the department of civil engineering opened the architecture major, and began enrolling students that year. 1998 The Master of Design Arts program was jointly established by architecture major and industrial design department.
