1956 10 Animal Husbandry Department of Guizhou Agricultural College offers animal husbandry specialty.

In September, 1958, the veterinary specialty was added and renamed as the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Guizhou Agricultural College.

In April 1998, the Department of Animal Science and the Department of Animal Medicine were established, which were affiliated to the College of Biotechnology of Guizhou University.

From June 5, 2002 to 10, the College of Animal Science of Guizhou University was established, with animal science departments, animal medicine departments and aquatic science departments. There are independent teaching and experimental buildings: the third teaching building (7th floor) of South Campus and the experimental building of Veterinary Hospital (6500㎡), with 8㎡ laboratories per student. During the Tenth Five-Year Plan period, Guizhou Province took the development of ecological animal husbandry as its development strategy. At the same time, in the construction of new socialist countryside, animal husbandry is the best way for farmers to develop their economy and increase their income. Therefore, a large number of professionals who know technology, specialty and management are needed. College of Animal Science is the only institution of higher learning in Guizhou Province that trains disciplines such as animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, aquatic products and forage grass. More than 95% of such professionals in the province are trained by the College of Animal Science, which plays an irreplaceable role.
