Southwest University of Political Science and Law is the earliest institution of higher learning of political science and law in New China. After the reform and opening up, the first batch of national key universities, the first batch of national education and training bases for outstanding legal talents, the Ministry of Education and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government * * * set up scholarships for overseas students from universities and the China Municipal Government to entrust training institutions, and the second phase of the Central and Western Universities Basic Ability Enhancement Plan was selected as universities.
The school, formerly known as Southwest People's Revolutionary University, was founded in 1950, and its president is Liu Bocheng. 1953, Southwest College of Political Science and Law was established on the basis of the Department of Political Science and Law of Southwest People's Revolutionary University. The first chairman was General Zhou Baozhong, the national hero of the Anti-Japanese War and the former commander-in-chief of the Second Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Coalition. 1978, approved by the State Council as a national key university; 1993, approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as the authorized unit for doctoral degrees; 1995, renamed Southwest University of Political Science and Law with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 2003, it was approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee as the first batch of authorized units for doctoral degrees in the first-class discipline of law in China; In 2004, with the approval of the Ministry of Personnel, a law postdoctoral mobile station was established. On March 20 12, it was approved by the Ministry of Education as a pilot university for independent enrollment; In August of the same year, with the approval of the Political and Legal Committee and the Ministry of Education, it became the first batch of excellent legal talents education and training bases; In June of the same year, it became a university approved by the Ministry of Education and the Chongqing Municipal People's Government. 20 16 was selected as the national "Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in the Midwest"; 20 17 was selected as a first-class discipline construction university in Chongqing.
After nearly 70 years' efforts, the school adheres to the motto of "erudition, faithfulness, morality and law", adheres to the school-running concept of "building a school through teaching, strengthening the school through scientific research and managing the school according to law", and gradually embodies the spirit of "saving the world, striving for self-improvement, harmony, preciseness and being realistic" and forms the spirit of taking law as the foundation.
The school has Shapingba Campus, Yubei Campus and Baoshenghu Campus, covering an area of more than 3,000 mu. Among them, Yubei Campus is the teaching center for undergraduate and postgraduate education, and Shapingba Campus is the base for continuing education and cadre training.
The school now has Civil and Commercial College (Intellectual Property College), Economic Law School (Ecological Law School), Law School, Administrative Law School (Supervisory Law School), International Law School, Criminal Investigation College (National Security College), Business School (Supervisory Audit College), Economics College, Foreign Languages College, Journalism and Communication College, Politics and Public Administration College, Marxism College and Artificial Intelligence Law School (China Applied Law School). Establish an innovation and entrepreneurship college to manage the innovation and entrepreneurship education of the whole school; A continuing education college (training college) was established to co-ordinate the adult education and cadre training of the whole school. The school has the qualifications to recruit students who walk, high-level athletes, Tibetan classes in the mainland, Xinjiang classes in the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and overseas Chinese, Hong Kong students who are exempted from examination, Macao students who walk and independent enrollment.
There are currently more than 23,000 students in this school. The "Family Cup" National Debate Competition held by our school is a debate competition with high influence in domestic universities. The student debate team won the champion of the 2nd International Trade Cup International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition, the 8th China University Students' Debate Competition, the "Creative Youth -20 10 Cross-Strait University Expo Debate Competition" and the 2nd and 3rd National University Students' Moot Competition. The student entrepreneurship team has successively won the Silver Award and the Gold Award in Chongqing Internet Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The School Art Troupe Choir has won many awards, such as the first prize in the third national college students' art exhibition, the silver prize in world choir games, and the winning works in the ninth China Music Golden Bell Award. Students have also achieved good results in national competitions such as volleyball, track and field, basketball, martial arts, sports dance and aerobics.
There are more than 2000 faculty members in this school. Among them, there are more than 600 teachers with senior professional and technical positions. The school has two disciplines 16 doctoral degree authorization points, eight master degree authorization points for first-level disciplines, 38 master degree authorization points for two disciplines, eight master degree authorization points, and a law postdoctoral research mobile station. The disciplines of economic law and procedural law are national key disciplines, and there are 9 provincial and ministerial key disciplines. There are 25 undergraduate majors, including 4 national professional construction sites, 13 Chongqing "three special action plans" professional construction projects and 6 Chongqing "three special action plans" professional group construction projects.
Over the past 70 years, the university has trained nearly 300,000 talents of all levels and types for the country, and it is the university with the largest number of professionals in the rule of law in China. There are 53 graduates majoring in western politics who have been or are currently the country's chief, first-class or second-class judges and prosecutors. Among the main leaders of the new state institutions, the number of graduates majoring in western politics is second only to Peking University and Renmin University of China. At present, there are 5 alumni serving as members of the 19th Central Committee, 3 alumni serving as members of the 19th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, and more than 60 alumni holding leadership positions at or above the provincial and ministerial levels. In Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, China Renmin University, Wuhan University, Hong Kong University, Macau University and other well-known domestic law schools, there are graduates of western political science engaged in teaching and research, and the law deans of many well-known domestic universities are graduates of western political science. In the 70th "Top Ten Outstanding Young Jurists in China" held in china law society, 18 western political alumni were selected, accounting for 26%.
In the 20 12 discipline evaluation of the Center for Degree and Postgraduate Education Development of the Ministry of Education, the first-class discipline of law in our college ranks among the top five in China.
In the 20 14 year's ranking of China University's postgraduate disciplines published by Areson China Alumni Association Network, our university and five universities, including Peking University, Wuhan University, China University of Political Science and Law and China Renmin University, were recognized as six stars.
In the "20 15 Evaluation and Research Report of China University" published by China Alumni Association Network, our school ranks second in the ranking of national universities of political science and law.

20 17 12, in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, the first-level discipline of law in our school was shortlisted as an A-level discipline together with the law schools of Peking University and Tsinghua, which tied for the second place in China and was the only discipline shortlisted as an A-level discipline in Chongqing.
In May, 20 18, in the Evaluation and Research Report of China University published by Ai China Alumni Association Network, the law major of this university tied for the top four in China with the law majors of China Renmin University, Peking University University and China University of Political Science and Law, and was rated as an 8-star major.
On July 26th, 20 18, the Center for Degree and Postgraduate Education Development of the Ministry of Education announced the results of the first professional degree level evaluation in China. Our school's master of laws degree authorization point has obtained A-level, which ranks second in the country with universities such as Tsinghua University, Wuhan University and Jilin University. It is also the only professional degree authorization point in Chongqing to enter A level.
