After half a century's construction and development, especially the "2 1 1 project" and the "985" phase I and II projects during the Ninth Five-Year Plan and the Tenth Five-Year Plan, the discipline construction of our college has made great progress, mainly in the following aspects: the discipline of material processing engineering was established as a national key discipline as early as 2002, and the discipline of material processing. Including mechanical manufacturing and automation, mechanical design and theory, mechanical and electronic engineering, vehicle engineering, intelligent detection and instrument manufacturing engineering, are all key disciplines in Guangdong Province. The college has two post-doctoral mobile stations in the first-level disciplines of mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering and material processing engineering (part).

The College has established the National Engineering Research Center of New Polymer Molding Equipment, the Key Laboratory of Polymer Molding and Processing, the Engineering Research Center of New Metal Materials Molding and Equipment of the Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of New Metal Materials Preparation and Molding in Guangdong Province, the only key laboratory of automobile engineering in Guangdong Province, and the key scientific research experiments of precision manufacturing technology and equipment in universities in Guangdong Province. All these have injected fresh blood into the benign and rapid development of our hospital.

Discipline construction is the key work of the college. On the one hand, discipline construction should establish a high-level discipline research base, on the other hand, it should build a high-level innovative talent training base. The idea of discipline construction in our college is to closely combine the economic construction and development situation of the whole country, especially in Guangdong Province, especially in the Pearl River Delta region, establish the concept of big manufacturing, aim at the frontier of disciplines, and combine economic construction to improve the overall level and form distinctive advantages. 1990 was granted the right of doctor's degree in light industrial machinery (it has always been the only doctoral program in China), and 1998 was renamed as the major of mechanical design and theory.
