China Shiyou University, referred to as Zhongshi University, is located at the southern foot of Du Jun Mountain in Changping District. Its predecessor was Beijing Petroleum Institute, the first petroleum institution of higher learning in New China. It was formed by the merger of petroleum and petrochemical departments of Peking University, Tianjin University, Dalian University of Technology and other universities on the basis of Tsinghua University Petroleum Department when the departments were adjusted. Founded in 1953, the school is a national key university with distinctive petroleum and petrochemical characteristics and coordinated development of multiple disciplines, directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is one of the key universities under the national "2 1 1 Engineering" and "985 Engineering Advantage Innovation Platform", which is listed in "1 1 Plan" and "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan". Known as "the cradle of petroleum science and technology talents". 1960 was identified as a national key university by the State Council. 1988 was renamed "Petroleum University". In 2005, it was renamed "China Youshi University".
