Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University was formed by the merger of Fudan University and Shanghai Medical University (National Central University Medical College founded by 1927) in 2000. Life medicine is one of the most advantageous disciplines in Fudan University. Fudan university's medicine is in the first corps of the country. The school, formerly known as Fudan College, was founded in 1905. It is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning independently established by the people in China. 1952 after the adjustment of departments, the school has become a comprehensive university focusing on basic teaching and research of arts and sciences. In 2000, Fudan University merged with Shanghai Medical University, the fourth national medical college of Sun Yat-sen University founded by 1927, to form a new Fudan University.

As of April 2020, the school has four campuses: Handan Campus, LAM Raymond Campus, Jiangwan Campus and Zhangjiang Campus, covering an area of about 2,439,200 square meters and a building area of 224 1 1 ,000 square meters. There are 35 directly affiliated hospitals (departments), 18 affiliated hospitals (including 4 under construction) and 79 undergraduate majors; Undergraduate 1399 1, graduate student 22232, international student 2946. The school has 3 139 teaching and research staff.
