North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, referred to as Huashui, is located in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It is a university jointly established by the Ministry of Water Resources and Henan Province and mainly managed by Henan Province. It is a characteristic backbone university in Henan Province and the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China.

The first batch of universities with basic capacity-building projects in central and western China, the first batch of universities with international students' enrollment qualifications, and the universities with excellent engineer education and training program of the Ministry of Education are the leading units of China universities, members of the BRICS University Alliance, members of the China-Russia Jiaotong University Alliance and members of the World Water Council.

The school originated from 195 1 Water Conservancy School of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Central People's Government founded in Beijing, and 1954 was renamed Beijing Water Conservancy School of the Ministry of Water Resources. 1978 was renamed North China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower, and 1990 moved to Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. In 2000, the whole system was transferred from the Ministry of Water Resources to Henan Province, and it was renamed North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower on 20 13.

By May 2023, the school had established Garden Campus (555 mu), Longzihu Campus (1780 mu) and Jianghuai Campus (1500 mu), with 25 teaching units, 68 full-time undergraduate enrollment majors and 4 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees.
