Professor Yan Haiping wrote ten historical plays Li Shimin, King of Qin, in his early years, and won the first prize of national excellent script in1980-198. In 2004, the play won a guide to China's famous modern plays, and in 2009, it won a screenplay award by Cao Yu to commemorate the 30th anniversary of reform and opening up. Since the late 1960s, a large number of papers have been published in both Chinese and English in the fields of comparative drama, media culture, East Asian studies and cross-cultural theory and art.. The main English books are Drama and Society: Selected Plays of Contemporary China (first edition 1998, second edition in 2000), Different Transnational Countries: Diaspora Asia and Its Performing Arts Aesthetics (2005), Modern Women Writers in China and Feminist Imagination:1905-1905. The Chinese version of Modern Women Writers in China and China Revolution (2011) was published by Peking University Publishing House in June.
He has given academic lectures at Harvard University, University of California, Berkeley, Brown University, University of Michigan, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University and Fudan University.
