Doctor, Communication University of China
Personally, I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Extending the academic system is in line with the actual situation of students. When China Communication University announced its decision, it had already explained that many students did not complete the specific academic arrangements within three years under the actual doctoral study. Due to the short study time, students lack enough time to carry out scientific research tasks, including collecting materials and writing papers. After ten years of academic work, the quality of the results rushed out under the condition of insufficient time is still uneven. At the same time, three years is not enough to train a professional academic talent, and academic spirit and ability are lacking.

At present, the enrollment of doctoral students in China is actually increasing year by year. There are more and more excellent talents, but few people really sit on the academic bench. On the one hand, I hope to improve the quality of academic completion, on the other hand, I hope to let students know that academics are not fast food and need more professional and serious academic spirit. In the future, after graduating from such education, students can also independently and effectively complete scientific research tasks and have their own independent opinions and ways of thinking. In academic research, you can also be more calm, instead of being at a loss or touching the bottom line in other ways to complete the task.

At the same time, extending the academic system still has some negative effects on students. The extension of the academic system means that tuition fees need to continue. The annual tuition fee ranges from thousands to tens of thousands, and the standards of each major and school are different. This requires the education department or school to provide financial assistance or help to students who are in financial difficulties because of the extension of the academic system. There is also the problem of accommodation. While extending the academic system, schools should provide certain guarantees for students' lives. Under the premise of ensuring life, doctoral students can devote themselves to scientific research, complete their papers with good quality and quantity, and enter social work.

Extending the academic system may also be a torment for some students, because they may just sit patiently hoping to improve their academic qualifications and have a higher starting point when they come out to work in the future. Personally, I think this will also be a screening mechanism, which will retain outstanding talents who really love academics, while those students who have other ideas will be eliminated or re-tested.
