School of Physical Science and Technology of Central South University was renamed School of Physics and Electronics.

School of Physical Science and Technology of Central South University was established in 2002, which was formed on the basis of physics disciplines and some electronic disciplines of Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway Institute and Central South University of Technology.

The College of Physical Science and Technology currently has three departments (Physics Department, Electronic Information Science Department, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering Department), two centers (University Physics Teaching Center, Physics Experiment Teaching) and 1 comprehensive office. Faculty 102, including 22 professors, 3 associate professors and 38 lecturers. There are 2456 students in the hospital, including 925 undergraduates, graduate students 17 1 person, and adult candidates 1360 people.

More than 200 academic papers are published every year, among which more than 30 papers are included in SCI and EI. Applying for national patent 10 has solved some important theoretical problems and technical difficulties in scientific research and production practice. The college not only makes remarkable achievements in basic research, but also pays attention to applied research and technology development research. Scientific research fields include: electromagnetic absorbing materials, dynamics and engineering design of soft materials, condensed matter physics theory, quantum optics, magnetism and magnetic materials, thin film physics and technology, micro-nano electronics and device design, luminescent materials and organic electroluminescent devices, chaos theory and signal processing, research and application of embedded systems, multi-sensor and information fusion power electronics technology, low-dimensional and mesoscopic physics, and nonlinear physics.
