The Development Course of Institute of International Economics of Nankai University
From 65438 to 0986, Professor Teng Weizao, a famous economist in China and former president of Nankai University, suggested setting up a specialized research institution in the field of international economy in Nankai University. In the same year, the State Education Commission of the People's Republic of China approved the application of Nankai University and agreed to establish the School of International Economics in Nankai University. The State Council Academic Degrees Committee authorized the Institute of International Economics to recruit master's and doctoral students and award degrees. After more than a year of preparation, Nankai Institute of International Economics was formally established in Nankai University at 9: 00. 1987+0 1. At the beginning of the establishment of this institute, most of the teaching and research personnel came from the World Economic Research Office of the Institute of Economics of Nankai University. Nankai University Economic Research Institute was established in 1927, which is one of the earliest economic research institutions in China.

When the Institute of International Economics of Nankai University 1987 was established, Mr. Li Zhuomin, founder of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and former professor of the Institute of Economics of Nankai University, was hired as its director. Mr. Li Zhuomin was unable to attend the post for health reasons. On his recommendation, Mr. Yang, an alumnus of Nankai University Economic Research Institute and a senior expert of the World Bank, was hired as the executive director, and Professor Xiong Xingmei, former director of Nankai University Economic Research Institute, was appointed as the deputy director. As Mr. Shujin Yang spends most of his time in the United States, Mr. Xiong Xingmei often visits and studies in Europe and the United States. For a long time, this work was completed by Jiang, Professor and Professor Galson.

The main tasks of the National Economic Research Institute are: (1) to train senior researchers for the country through doctoral and master's education; (2) Engaged in the research in the field of international economy, especially the research on foreign-related economic relations in China. For a long time before1980s, for various reasons, China seriously neglected the teaching and research of international economics. Since the opening to the outside world in the late 1970s, our government has strongly felt the demand for well-trained international economic experts and the lack of research on international economic issues in China. The establishment of the National Economic Research Institute is a key step to meet this demand. At the same time, the National Economic Research Institute also provides international economic and business consulting services for government agencies and enterprises at all levels, and engages in international teaching and research cooperation.

When the Institute for International Economics was formally established, its research projects involved five major areas: international trade and balance of payments, multinational corporations, international economic law, economic relations and comprehensive research in Asia and the Pacific. The research projects mainly focus on the following aspects: international capital flow, transnational corporations, comparative company law, the role of big banks, trading companies and industrial companies in Japanese economic development, the economic cycle and growth of developed capitalist countries, and China's foreign economic opening policy. More and more research projects are mainly focused on China's international economy, including: China's foreign trade system reform, policies and measures to promote exports, economic analysis of China's coastal economic development zone, Sino-Japanese trade and investment relations, and comparison of foreign investment laws. To this end, the Institute for International Economics has organized and established five research laboratories. They are: International Trade Research Office, with Mr. Yang and Mr. Wang as the directors, and then the professor as the directors. Research Office of Multinational Corporations, headed by Professor Jiang; International Economic Law Research Office, headed by Professor Golson; Comprehensive research room, headed by Professor Chen Ligao; The Asia-Pacific Economic Research Office is headed by Professor Gong Zhankui. 1993, Mr. Yang resigned as a director due to physical reasons, and Mr. Xiong Xingmei became a director.

Focusing on the development of related disciplines and research directions, the National Economic Research Institute has carried out a series of structural adjustments and reorganizations since its establishment, including multinational companies, international economic law, Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and quantitative and econometric studies.

The research on international direct investment and transnational corporations has always been the research focus and advantage research direction of the National Economic Research Institute. 1992, the research center of transnational corporations was established. At that time, the director of the center was Professor Jiang, and the deputy directors were Xian and Zhang Yangui. Under the auspices of Professor Teng Weizao, Professor Chen Yinfang and Professor Jiang, the National Economic Research Institute has achieved fruitful results in the research of transnational corporations, which is well-known at home and abroad. 65438-0999 Multinational Corporation Research Center applied for the Key Research Base of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, and was approved in 2000. Professor Xian is currently the director of the Research Center for Multinational Corporations.

65438-0995 The Research Office of International Economic Law was independent, and the Institute of International Economic Law was established, with Professor Golson as its director. 1In March 1995, after consultation with the former State Education Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, according to the instructions of the State Education Commission, the Asia-Pacific Research Office independently established the APEC Research Center, and Professor Gong Zhankui successively served as the deputy director and director of the APEC Research Center. 1999 APEC center passed the evaluation and became the key research base of philosophy and social sciences of the Ministry of Education. With the increasing economic activities of China in the Asia-Pacific region, the economic problems in the Asia-Pacific region are becoming more and more important to China. In 2003, APEC Research Center was upgraded to China APEC Research Institute, and its establishment ceremony was held in the Great Hall of the People.

In 2003, in order to better improve the teaching and research system of National Economic College and adapt to the changes of the world economic situation, the International Finance Research Office was established under the leadership of Professor Dai.

Due to the continuous improvement of economic research methods, it is impossible to obtain specific analysis results accurately by qualitative research alone. More and more international academic circles adopt econometric methods for quantitative analysis and empirical test. Therefore, in 2003, the National Economic Research Institute established the econometrics laboratory, with Professor Zhang Xiaodong as the laboratory director. The establishment of econometric laboratory not only expands the research field of National Economic Research Institute, but also has a great influence on the cultivation of graduate students in School of Economics of Nankai University. With the efforts of Professor Zhang Xiaodong and others, econometrics, as a basic research method and tool in economic research, has been paid attention to in graduate education in our college, and the graduate students' econometric analysis ability has been improved rapidly. In 2008, the econometric research office was independent, and the Institute of Quantitative Economics was established, with Professor Zhang Xiaodong as its director.

After more than 20 years' development, the teaching and research of National Economic College mainly focus on three areas: transnational corporations and international investment, international trade and international finance. Deputy Director/KOOC-0/987-/KOOC-0/993 Professor Yang, Professor Xiong Xingmei/KOOC-0/993-/KOOC-0/997, Professor/KOOC-0/997-2002, Professor Dai.
