Southwest Petroleum University, referred to as "Southwest Normal University" for short, was jointly established by China Petroleum and Natural Gas Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation, China Offshore Oil Corporation and Sichuan Provincial People's Government, and was selected as the "Basic Capacity Building Project of Universities in the Midwest of China". Southwest Petroleum University, formerly known as Sichuan Petroleum Institute, was founded in 1958. 1970 was renamed Southwest Petroleum Institute; Postgraduate enrollment 1978, doctoral degree award 1986. Oil and gas field development engineering (combined petroleum machinery engineering) became the first batch of national key disciplines in 1988. The State Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Reservoir Geology and Development Engineering was approved for construction in 19 1, and the postdoctoral research mobile station was established in 1965438.
