As a comprehensive agricultural university, the running history of South China Agricultural University can be traced back to the Guangdong Agricultural Experimental Field and its affiliated agricultural workshops established in 1909. 1952, the Agricultural College of Sun Yat-sen University, the Agricultural College of Lingnan University and the Agricultural College of Guangxi University were merged to form South China Agricultural College. 1984 was renamed as South China Agricultural University with a school history of 1 13.
The crop discipline of South China Agricultural University has a long history and a deep foundation. Ding Ying, the "father of rice science" in China and the first president of South China Agricultural College, took the lead in rice breeding and light and temperature ecology research as early as the 1920s, and cultivated new rice varieties through wild rice hybridization for the first time in the history of rice cultivation in China, laying a foundation for the development of crop science.
Over the past century, this discipline has trained 1 10,000 agricultural professionals, including five academicians Ding Ying, Wing Gen Lou, Huang Yaoxiang, Lin Hongxuan and Liu Yaoguang, and three academicians Ding Ying, Wing Gen Lou and Liu Yaoguang emerged.
