Yanbian University is located in Yanji, the capital of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province, which enjoys the reputation of "hometown of education". It is a national "double-class" construction university, a national "2 1 1 project" key construction university, a key construction university for the development of the western region, the people's government of Jilin Province and the Ministry of Education.

At present, the school has eight first-class doctoral degree authorized disciplines, 1 second-class doctoral degree authorized disciplines, 3 1 first-class master degree authorized disciplines, 2 second-class master degree authorized disciplines, 18 master degree authorized disciplines, and five interdisciplinary disciplines are independently set up. At present, there are 1 national "double first-class" construction disciplines, 15 high-level disciplines with Jilin characteristics, 2 key disciplines in state administration of traditional chinese medicine and 3 key disciplines in the State Ethnic Affairs Commission, covering 12 disciplines other than military science.
