The Police Force has three levels of commendation, namely "Red Chicken Rope", "Flower Chicken Rope" and "Black Chicken Rope". They are distinguished by the color of the rope with the silver chicken tied to the police uniform shoulder, and the "red chicken rope" is the highest honor. The most basic "black chicken rope" is owned by all policemen. The "Flower Chicken Rope" made of red, yellow and black is awarded by the Commissioner of Police to police officers who have made contributions, performed well and devoted themselves to their duties.

As for the highest honor, the "red chicken rope" is to praise any police officer for his outstanding achievements in action or work and his great contribution to Hong Kong. On the recommendation of the Police Force, the Chief Executive will personally present the "Chief Executive's Certificate of Public Service" or "Chief Executive's Certificate of Social Service" at the annual award ceremony. Honor will not bring the police a salary adjustment, but it will be of great help to their future promotion. However, no matter what grade of silver chicken rope, the police rarely wear it on weekdays, and only wear it when attending official ceremonies or funerals.
