UCSD is actually not in San Diego, but in La Jolla. This is a rich area near San Diego. La Jolla means treasure in Spanish. J sounds like H in English and ll sounds like Y in English, so the pronunciation is La Jolla. Generally speaking, after flying to Los Angeles, you can take a bus or van to La Jolla.
UCSD is by the sea. Walk out of the campus from the entrance next to the Africa Hall in ERC dormitory area, go north to the intersection, and then go west, you can walk all the way to the seaside, but there is a cliff here in ERC. This is the west coast. It is impossible to watch the sunrise, but there is still a chance to watch the sunset. As soon as we arrived at the beach, the sun quickly set. As written in many articles, the process of the sun finally sinking is very short, less than 10 second. Some time ago, I also went to the seaside from revelle College, and this is the beach. But because there is not much activity at night, just listening to the sound of the waves, it may be sunny during the day.
2. Campus environment
The most intuitive first impression of UCSD is nothing more than: big. 866 hectares, six times as much as UCLA, but less than one third of UCD (after all, UCD is a farm). When the school is big, it will be more painful to welcome new visitors. Of course, being big is not the only cause of pain. Another reason is that UCSD is on the mountain. Yes, high and low slopes are common in ERC-TMC-Muir-Revelle. Four colleges are arranged from north to south, while warren and sixth, which are closer to the east of the campus, don't have so many slopes.
The logo library of UCSD Center is very beautiful, a bit like the China Pavilion of the World Expo. The price center of the center also looks like a very beautiful building. The architecture of ERC is more gorgeous. Warren has a distinctive building, like a small house left on the building. It is said that it is a homesick work of art students. The buildings here are really a little ordinary. The highest economics department has only three floors! Especially when you walk from ERC to Marshall. . . The changes in architecture will be very obvious, hmm. A detailed introduction to university stamps.
3. Social atmosphere
Before I came here, I heard that ucsd was a social death of uc. When I was oriented, I felt that the people here were actually quite enthusiastic. But because there are many people in China, China people prefer to form their own circles, which leads to social death. So if you are not good at socializing, you can join the circle of China people. If you like socializing, you can get to know more friends without sticking to the circle of China people. This has something to do with the college.
4. College system
When applying for UC system, if you look up UCSD, you will see something similar to college volunteers. There are six colleges, you can arrange them in order. Generally speaking, you will be admitted to the first choice. Is this thing important? In fact, it is important to say that it is important, and it is not important to say that it is not important.
ERC College is the northernmost college in the school, far from the city center. But they are well-equipped and a very local college. Their canteen Cafe ventanas is not very big, but it is beautifully decorated. At night, the sunshade curtain will be pulled up to let the warm indoor light illuminate the lawn in front of the dormitory area, and there will often be some activities on the lawn. Their canteen opens at 7 o'clock from Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10. The characteristics of the canteen ... the food in their canteen can be eaten directly after scalding. If there is fried noodles in the daily special, please don't try it easily, because the salt in ERC canteen is free at all. ERC's supermarket is in the village, where most people are transfer students. At the same time, they have the latest gym in the school, called RIMAC (the school has two gyms). Of course, they also have a luxurious GE-five-semester MMW writing class.
Muir's canteen has roots downstairs, pines upstairs and John's market next to it. Pines canteen, where there are salads, pizza, fried chicken and curry rice. In short, there are many varieties, and there will be burritos for breakfast. Muir feels like a relatively low-key college with a football field and swimming pool next to it. Moore is also close to the school center and has a key APM building. This building is ugly, but if you study science and engineering, you must come here to hand in your math homework every week. Ge doesn't know much. It is said that the writing course is only two semesters, but it is literature appreciation.
Revele is the oldest and largest college. I visited it when I was in ori, and it was actually great. They have many tall buildings, such as York and GH, where many classes are held. The old gymnasium is in Revelle. Their canteen is called 64 degrees, which is said to be because the temperature of sea water is 64 degrees. 64 degrees is very big, and there are many kinds of food, including some Chinese food and fried dumplings. Although their vegetables are always fried. There are also hamburgers and barbecue counters, which are delicious, so the opening hours are limited. There is a supermarket called Rogers next to it. Their GE is said to be quite difficult, hum for five semesters. In addition, there is physical chemistry GE, and there are three courses in chemistry. If you major in physical chemistry, the GE in this college will overlap with your major courses to a great extent, which is quite cost-effective.
Warren and Sixth shouldn't be far from the center. Ge doesn't know much about it for the time being. Warren is partial to science and engineering, and it is said that writing class is more interesting. The sixth is the latest college with new facilities and everything. Warren faces Turbine Canyon, a big pit at the University of California, San Diego. The canteen is next to the pit. I've only been there once and eaten fried noodles once. Well, it is better than ERC's. Sixth's canteen is said to be a small pizza shop. It's really far away. I've never been there. ...
Besides, the college is really useful when greeting. When introducing yourself, besides your name and nationality, you can also talk about the college. It feels very tall.
5. Shopping guide
In the school, Price center is located in the center of the school, with fast food such as panda express, Subway and Burger King. There is also a bookstore next to it, selling books and school T-shirts.
From the sixth college, there is a station on Gilman Avenue, and you can take a bus for free with your student ID. Take bus No.202, and the last stop is UTC. This is a block, with Macys, Sears, Forever2 1 stores and the newly opened zara. You can also call Uber back to school from there, which costs about 5-7 yuan. It's still a good deal for several people to fight for a car.
A little further, you will go to the Escort and Clairmont Mesa. Being close to these two blocks is really the welfare of UCSD students in China. It took more than ten minutes to take a taxi, and now Uber's fare seems to be less than 15 yuan. There are China supermarkets, Korean supermarkets, Japanese supermarkets, and target, which is 85 degrees, as well as all kinds of Chinese food (both Sichuan food and Cantonese food), Japanese food and Korean barbecue. ......
Go further and you'll reach the Fashion Valley. There are more people going to Thanksgiving, and it is a more comprehensive shopping center than UTC. There is an AMC cinema nearby (in fact, there is also an AMC in La Jolla village, which is 5 minutes' drive from the school. Maybe there will be a little difference in the movie.
