For more than 40 years, Professor Zhao has worked hard in the front line of teaching and scientific research and made outstanding achievements, especially in the excavation and research of paleontological fossils. 199 1 won the third prize of scientific and technological progress in Guizhou province; 1995 and in 2003, it won the second prize of scientific and technological progress in Guizhou province twice. He has published many monographs, such as Trilobite Fauna of Early and Middle Cambrian Kaili Formation in Southeast Guizhou and Guizhou-Paleontology, and published more than 0/00 papers in academic journals at home and abroad. Thanks to his efforts, the fossil collection of the famous Kaili biota has made great progress. Its "Re-study of Kaili Biota" won the second prize of scientific and technological progress in Guizhou Province in 2003, and was appraised by 7 domestic experts, reaching the international advanced level. In addition, the Niutitang biota discovered by him together with Dr. M.Steiner of the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, won the support of the National Natural Science Foundation and the national three-level climbing project of 350,000 yuan, which made contributions to the early paleontological research in Guizhou and the international integration.
Professor Zhao attaches great importance to international cooperation. Experts from Sweden, the United States, Poland, Norway and other countries have been invited to Guiyang for scientific research cooperation, and more than 20 scholars from Canada, Russia, Britain, Germany and other countries have been maintained or carried out academic exchanges. Professor Zhao has also visited Germany, the United States, South Korea and other countries many times to attend international academic conferences.
What is commendable is that Professor Zhao has never left his teaching post in such a busy scientific research work. We have trained a batch of outstanding students, and cooperated with Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology of Chinese Academy of Sciences to independently train 1 doctoral students and 3 master students.
"Be practical and pay attention to principles". This is Professor Zhao's own life motto. Although he has made some achievements in his work, Professor Zhao still thinks that he lacks too much, so he is eager to run around and is busy with various research and exploration activities. In life, he is always strict with himself and lenient with others. He will try his best to help and has a good reputation among colleagues and students.
There is an exhibition room next to Professor Zhao's office, which contains fossils he dug up from all over the world: trilobites, shellfish and rock swallows ... When he mentioned their origins, Professor Zhao gushed and was very happy. These fossils seem to show us the tireless figure of Professor Zhao when it was sunny or stormy. "Without paleontology, there would be no Zhao in Zhao", which is a colleague's evaluation of Professor Zhao. Indeed, Professor Zhao has paid too much for the cause he loves. In order to work, he set up a small bed in a corner of the office, where he ate and lived most of the time; In order to work, he could have enjoyed family happiness at home, and he accepted the employment of the school; In order to work, Professor Zhao, who has been away from home for decades, refrained from missing his hometown and gave up the opportunity to return to China again and again. He said that there are abundant fossil resources here and his favorite occupation.
Professor Zhao plans to rest at the age of 75. He is determined to devote his life to his favorite paleontology research.
