West Lake University, located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is a new institution of higher learning sponsored by social forces and supported by the state. Its predecessor was Zhejiang West Lake Institute of Advanced Studies, which was formally approved by the Ministry of Education on February 18, 2008.

In accordance with the orientation of running a school with a high starting point, small but refined and research-oriented, we are committed to gathering first-class teachers, building first-class disciplines, cultivating first-class talents and producing first-class achievements, and strive to make outstanding contributions to the national strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education and innovation-driven development.

2. Teachers.

The school has more than 100 outstanding academic talents from all over the world. By 2026, the school is expected to have 300 assistant professors, associate professors and full professors (including lecture professors), 600 scientific research, teaching, technical support and administrative personnel, and 900 postdoctoral researchers.

3. Discipline construction

The school has three first-class doctoral programs for degrees, two first-class doctoral programs jointly cultivated with Fudan University and three first-class doctoral programs jointly cultivated with Zhejiang University.

West Lake University hopes that every West Lake student can take "knowledge, exploration, virtue and responsibility" as the principle of personal practice, realize self-worth and run through the grand goal of "promoting human civilization".

The school has always emphasized the cultivation concept of "interest orientation", at the same time, it has created a mechanism and environment to encourage interdisciplinary exchanges, promoted the collision of different disciplines and different ways of thinking, stimulated the spark of inspiration, and sought more innovative growth points.

West Lake University adopts the application-evaluation system to recruit students, and applicants are not limited by their existing degrees, graduation years and ages.

2. Incentive and assistance system

The student financial aid system of the school includes government, school and social aid, which is used to support the basic living expenses of doctoral students during their school days, such as tuition, accommodation, water and electricity, transportation and insurance.
