Of course, everyone can teach themselves, but it is hard to say whether they really understand and really benefit. Of course, there are also talents like Huineng, the sixth ancestor, who can do it overnight.
However, generally speaking, it is safer and more appropriate to lay a good foundation first and step by step.
The foundation is three conversions, five precepts and ten virtues. Only by studying this part first and doing it well can we lay a good foundation for future study and not feel overwhelmed when studying.
New Beginners-Beginner's Guide
Classic Collection: In the end, hundreds of millions of people practice, and it is rare to get the Tao; Only chanting Buddha can lead to illness and death.
"Tripitaka": Now and in the future, all sentient beings, if the sky is human and if they are male or female, have learned the name of a Buddha, and their merits are boundless, not to mention many.
Diamond Sutra: The law is equal and there is no competition.
In fact, the difference lies not in practice, but in our own roots. The above sentence "Da Ji Jing" means that modern people, generally speaking, are more suitable for practicing Buddhist methods, so if you believe this scripture, you can learn about Jing Zong.
First of all, you can take a look at the biography of Sakyamuni Buddha (which can be searched from the link network) to understand the life of the Buddha, and then start to learn Buddha systematically.
Q: I don't know Buddhism yet. How should I start?
A: Please watch the lectures on "Realizing Buddhism" and "Three Converts to Religion" given by Master Kong Jing on the website first, which will help you to have a correct understanding of Buddhism and understand the purpose and significance of learning Buddhism, thus improving your interest and confidence in learning Buddhism and further study.
Q: How do beginners learn?
A: Jing Zong's study is based on "pure industry and three blessings" (the concept of Infinite Life Sutra).
The first blessing, "honoring adoptive parents and serving teachers", how to implement it? We adopt the Confucian disciple rule. The content of Disciple Rules is to be a dutiful son and daughter at home, to be a good student at school, and to truly implement these two words in life. "Don't kill people with kindness, cultivate ten virtues", and put it into practice in Ten Virtues. We must study hard.
The second blessing is that "I have been converted by three times, and I have enough precepts, and I have no dignity." At home, students should learn at least five precepts and three conversions. Third, there are video tapes and text textbooks. Monks must learn the outline of Misha's laws and regulations. The lowest level is Misha's Ten Commandments and Twenty-four Commandments. "Having enough commandments" is the perfection of the Ten Commandments. "Don't commit dignity" is the twenty-four dignity implemented in daily life and dealing with people.
The third kind of blessing, "those who send bodhicitta, believe in cause and effect, recite Mahayana and persuade others to do it", is embodied in the Bodhisattva's original vows. "Earth" is the heart, and "hiding" is the treasure of the heart. This article is the purpose of Tibetan scriptures, and we should learn Tibetan scriptures to develop the treasures in our hearts. This is the basic course for the first two years.
Buddha said: "The three blessings of pure karma are the positive causes of the three Buddhas' pure karma." How heavy this sentence is! How important it is! The third life is past, present and future. These are the real fundamental reasons for us to practice from ordinary people to bodhisattvas and become buddhas in the future. Both the 84,000 practice and the infinite practice are based on these three principles. Without this foundation, it can't be achieved; Just like building a house and laying a foundation, no matter what house is built, the foundation must be compacted. With a solid foundation, you can learn methods.

Before learning Mahayana, you must lay a good foundation, otherwise you will definitely spend time and energy, and then you will feel that your kung fu is ineffective. At that time, it will be bad to doubt and slander Buddha.
In fact, the Buddha made it very clear to us. The Buddhist Sutra says: Those who don't learn Hinayana first and then Mahayana are non-Buddhist disciples.
There is a story in the Classic of Hundred Metaphors. A fool saw that the third floor of other people's rich family was beautiful, so he called a carpenter to build the third floor. The carpenter said, if you don't build the first floor or the second floor, where can you build the third floor? The fool said, I don't need to build the first floor or the second floor, I just need the third floor. Everyone laughed at the fool.
So did our four disciples. If you don't take the third test, lay a good foundation and study step by step, you will be no different from that fool.
Mahayana is a tall building. To build a tall building, you must have a foundation. The foundation is solid and the tall building is stable. The foundation is Hinayana Buddhism.
Without the Hinayana foundation, the tall building is supported by several bamboo poles, or it looks good at first, but it is in danger of collapse at any time.
Throughout history, Hinayana Buddhism in China declined. Is there anything wrong with Buddha?
Buddhism emphasizes substance, not form. In fact, all the eminent monks and great virtues in China have been based on Confucianism and Taoism, replacing Hinayana Buddhism. Therefore, brilliant achievements have been made in practice, which is worth learning.
There are many textbooks for learning Hinayana, and Disciples Rules is a very good choice.
Of course, here we mean substitution. Substitution is not equal to equality. We should use it to lay the foundation and then practice Mahayana. It is more appropriate to use textbooks instead, and we can absorb them more easily.
If you only need to practice Hinayana, it is more appropriate to use Hinayana Sutra.
