Under the background of deepening reform in an all-round way and the requirement of promoting comprehensive reform in the field of education, Shandong University has actively deepened the reform of system and mechanism, vigorously promoted the modernization, integration, internationalization and popularization of humanities research and promotion, and achieved fruitful results. Recently, the reporter interviewed Zhang Rong, president of Shandong University, on how to promote the construction of humanities.

Reporter: "Modernization" is generally understood as "docking with the times and expressing the characteristics of the times." What is the value of modernization in the field of humanities research? What measures does Shandong University take to promote the modernization of humanities research?

Zhang Rong: The modernization of humanities research is to jump out of the traditional limitations of Confucian classics research, combine traditional cultural research with contemporary social development, explain and solve the political, economic, legal and social problems faced by modern society, make it adapt to contemporary culture, coordinate with modern society, give full play to its role in the construction and inheritance of core value system, and realize the creative transformation and innovative development of Confucianism and Chinese excellent traditional culture.

In recent years, Shandong University has actively explored the innovation of discipline direction, research methods and communication methods in the humanities field, and produced a number of academic achievements with contemporary value. The school has actively undertaken a number of major national social science projects, such as "Marxism and Confucianism" with Professor Xu Jialu as the chief expert, "Integration of Yi Studies in a Hundred Years" with Professor Liu Dajun as the chief expert, and "Research on Civilization, Culture and Building a Harmonious World" with Professor Chen Yan as the chief expert.

Reporter: What are the main aspects to promote the integration of humanities research and promotion?

Zhang Rong: First, promote the integration of research forces. The collaboration and cooperation of humanities and social sciences is the general trend of innovation-driven development. Starting from its own discipline and academic advantages, Shandong University actively builds an open scientific research organization model, breaks through the barriers of personnel system by setting up humanities and social science cooperation bodies and Nishan Fund, and establishes a new mechanism of liberal arts cooperation combining discipline construction, academic research and personnel training, academic research and practical application according to the idea of integrated development of talents, projects and platforms. The second is to promote the integration of research fields. In recent years, the school has integrated academic resources, devoted itself to the research and inheritance of Chinese excellent traditional culture, systematically sorted out and combed Chinese cultural classics, and achieved a large number of academic achievements. Especially in the collation and research of classical literature, great achievements have been made. The Complete Works of Hanshu (published in 2009), The Hundred Years Collection of Yi Studies (published on 20 10) and other achievements with important academic value have come out one after another, which have had a great influence on academic circles at home and abroad.

Reporter: Civilization is colorful because of communication and enriched because of mutual learning. Does promoting the internationalization of humanities mean strengthening the international exchange of humanities research? How does Shandong University realize internationalization?

Zhang Rong: Simply put, it means "going out" and "please come in". As the only uninterrupted ancient civilization in the world, Chinese civilization must learn from other civilizations and learn from their achievements in order to achieve development. In recent years, Shandong University has taken various measures to promote the internationalization of humanities selectively, step by step and at different levels.

The first is to build a high-end international academic brand. The school actively promotes foreign academic exchanges and cooperation in the humanities field. On 20 10, Nishan World Civilization Forum was launched, with the theme of dialogue among different civilizations in the world, to explore the characteristics and laws of the blending of Chinese and Western cultures, promote mutual understanding and exchanges among different civilizations in the world, participate in and promote the construction of a new world cultural order, and show the soft power of the country's culture. The second is to promote the overseas spread of traditional culture. In recent years, Shandong University and Hanban established the Confucius Institute and the "China Cultural Experience Base", which achieved good results. The third is to host large-scale international academic conferences. The 22nd International Congress of Historical Science will be held in Shandong University. Known as the "Olympics" in the field of international history, the Congress is held every five years, which is the first time in Asia 100 years.

Reporter: Promoting the popularization of humanities research is generally understood as "promoting research results to the public", but we know that the value of scientific research results in humanities is sometimes difficult to reflect in social life. Does Shandong University have any specific measures for this?

Zhang Rong: To prosper the humanities, we should not only pay attention to theoretical research and innovation, but also pay attention to the popularization, publicity and popularization of education. In recent years, Shandong University has faced the society, combined with folk culture, actively spread excellent traditional culture, guided core values, and vigorously promoted cultural inheritance and innovation, which has had a wide impact on society.

The first is to start the rural Confucianism action. 20 12 May, Professor Zhang Shishan presided over the key project "Etiquette and Vulgarity: Modern Folk Confucian Tradition-Centering on the Field Investigation of Hundred Villages in Shandong". Through the in-depth study of the geographical space, historical evolution, life rituals, festivals, belief activities and entertainment traditions of Shandong villages, this paper explores the existing form, cultural mentality, inheritance and modern innovation form of Confucian culture in civil society.

The second is to open Qilu Forum. Under the overall planning of the Propaganda Department of Shandong Provincial Party Committee, Shandong University, Provincial Social Science Association, Qilu Evening News and other units jointly hosted the Qilu Forum, a public welfare and popular humanities and social sciences forum. With the purpose of "building an ideological platform and enjoying spiritual wealth", it created a public welfare forum with rich connotations and standardized operation, which was well received by the public.

The third is to compile "Confucian series". In 20 13, Shandong university started 100 kinds of Confucian short editions, which is a major project led by Professor Pang Pu, aiming at transforming high-level academic achievements into easy-to-understand, elegant and popular popular books, and popularizing China traditional culture through short editions, large-scale production, small articles and large-scale writing.
