Many foreign students in China have the impression that a fraternity or sorority is a crazy initiation ceremony. A group of students get together and do nothing but drink all day. In addition, it seems that many fraternities/sororities are mainly white, so China people have never been very interested in Greek life.
However, as an organization with a longer history than the United States, its cross-school and cross-regional nature and the benefits it provides to its members and communities have many opportunities for capacity improvement and career development. It is the most influential form of student organization and an indispensable college life experience for many Americans.
From a secret organization that only accepted white elite men hundreds of years ago, it has developed into an organization with various ethnic groups, genders, goals and charitable purposes.
Fraternities/sororities can be roughly divided into three categories, the most common one is social, but there are also academic and service categories, that is, they are established in a specific discipline or serve a specific (public * * *). Usually, academic and service classes do not require gender.
In addition to whites, people of color have gradually established brothels/sororities that only accept certain ethnic groups or fight for the interests of certain ethnic groups.
Since 1929, the first Asian Brotherhood Pi Alpha Phi was founded at the University of California, Berkeley, and now there are dozens of fraternity/sorority branches that support the interests of Asian Americans.
I chose some of the biggest introductions for reference to foreign students who don't know how to choose their own fraternity/sorority. When choosing a fraternity/sorority, you should choose the one that suits you best according to your own interests and needs.
Daily conversation class
A national fraternity/sorority can be understood as a chain brand. If a school organization wants to be crowned with this brand name, it needs to apply to the headquarters, and it can become a colony or a quasi-chapter if it meets the basic requirements. After a period of headquarters inspection, the activities and norms of tribal organizations have reached the requirements, and they can become formal branches.
